Tooro Botanical Garden

Uganda

Terraformation is partnering with Indigenous-led Tooro Botanical Garden to protect and restore biodiversity in Uganda, where ecosystems are under increasing threat. Tooro is establishing a seed bank in Fort Portal, which will help meet the overwhelming demand for native tree seeds across the country. The initiative is providing jobs for Ugandan and Congolese seed collectors, as well as vocational training for 1,000 young people.

Tooro aims to store 150 species (and up to 10 million seeds) in the seed bank – which will accelerate reforestation, increase biodiversity, and help mitigate climate change.

Nursery at Tooro

A new seed bank will allow Tooro to grow more native species in nurseries.
